Periodontal Plastic Surgery

At Issaquah Endodontics & Periodontics, our goal is to improve the smiles and oral health of our patients, starting with their gums. Your gums are an extremely important part of your oral health both for function and aesthetic reasons. Periodontal plastic surgery helps restore the function and appearance of your gums and gum line that have been damaged by forms of periodontal disease. This type of surgery also works to restore the periodontal ligament and bone that supports your teeth.

When Is Periodontal Plastic Surgery Needed?

Dr. Willis Gabel performs periodontal plastic surgery when a patient has had significant gum damage due to periodontal disease and infection. This procedure is used to rebuild and repair lost gum and/or cover the tooth roots with natural gum tissue–resulting in a better-looking and healthier smile and reducing tooth sensitivity and root cavities.

Periodontal plastic surgery is meant to improve the gum and oral health of the individual, while also helping to eliminate signs of gum disease and the overall aesthetic look of your smile. However, this is not to be considered a “cure” for any stage of periodontal disease–it is more so the rebuilding of the patient’s diseased gums so that the surrounding gum areas can better support the teeth and create an improved smile appearance.

Common Issues Treated With Periodontal Plastic Surgery

There are many oral health issues that Dr. Willis Gabel may use periodontal plastic surgery to correct. Some of the most common ones are:

  • A gummy smile
  • Uneven gum tissue height
  • Missing teeth
  • Defects in the bone
  • Combination therapy
