CHAO Pinhole® Technique

At Issaquah Endodontics & Periodontics, we are committed to restoring the function and look of your gums and teeth. Using the most advanced techniques, our experienced team is able to treat moderate gum recession which is often caused by periodontal disease and infection, without the need for a surgical grafting procedure. Dr. Willis Gabel can effectively utilize the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique to treat patients with gum recession in the King County area area.

This method was developed by Dr. John Chao in 2006 as a less invasive alternative to traditional gum grafting which uses invasive surgery to the mouth and gums. The Chao Pinhole® Technique can be performed under the use of local anesthetic with little to no discomfort for the patient. This procedure is overall quick, simple and extremely precise in treating gum recession.

How It Works

Gum recession occurs in patients whose gums are uneven or begin to recede, leading to sensitivity issues and tooth decay. The Chao Pinhole® Technique is a very effective and safe method that Dr. Willis Gabel uses to treat patients with gum recession without requiring serious surgery or grafting. Unlike the traditional grafting method, this technique is suture and scalpel-free, is more precise and results in quicker treatment and recovery.

Prior to your procedure, Dr. Willis Gabel will numb your gums for your comfort. Then, using a specialized tool, Dr. Willis Gabel will create a small hole in the healthy soft tissue above the area that is being treated. Then, we will loosen and expand the gum tissues to cover the areas where the gum has receded. Once these gums have been moved back to their correct position, Dr. Willis Gabel will insert collagen strips to help stabilize the gums and stimulate healing. These strips will help to reduce inflammation and lead to proper natural collagen growth.
